In its “Training and Education Annual Report” released in June, the service said it is “divesting our legacy training systems and simulations and moving forward to adopt government and commercial off-the-shelf solutions” for Project Tripoli.
The 5G (or greater) wireless network will connect the Marine Corps' ranges and training areas (RTA) allowing for complete interoperability of "live" simulations into a complete LVC environment. The wireless capability will provide fixed and mobile systems to enhance training and increase range flexibility in support of operational requirements.
Maj. Edward Hickey, a modeling and simulation officer at Training and Education Command, said during the roundtable the deployment of the 5G network at Twentynine Palms is “the first place where the rubber has met the road on our delivery of a wireless network for ranges and training areas.”
During its recent Service Level Training Exercise 5-24 held at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California, the service introduced a new 5G training network to demonstrate how such connectivity could transform how Marines train.
