Telecommunications in North Macedonia include radio, television, fixed and mobile telephones, telegraph and the Internet. Radio stations: the public radio broadcaster operates over multiple stations; 3 privately owned radio stations broadcast nationally; there are about 70 local commercial radio stations (2012).
The Republic of North Macedonia has a modern digital telecommunications network. The Macedonian telecommunications sector is the most liberalized in the region. At the moment, fixed telephone services are offered by 17 companies, while mobile telephony is in constant development.
Three privately owned radio stations broadcast nationally in North Macedonia. They are Antenna 5 FM (founded in 1994 as a contemporary hits radio station and soon part of the MTV Radio Network), Kanal 77 (based in Štip), and Metropolis radio.
As a country in transition, North Macedonia's media system is under transformation. The Constitution of North Macedonia guarantees the freedom of expression, freedom of speech, the right to access to information and the establishment of institutions for public information.
