Georgia Public Service NEWS RELEASE January 23, 2025 – (ATLANTA) The Georgia Public Service Commission voted unanimously on Thursday to approve a new rule that allows Georgia Power to charge new data centers in a manner that will protect ratepayers from cost shifting.
In April 2024, the PSC approved expanding Georgia’s power grid to accommodate the new data centers. But now, customers using more than 100 megawatts of energy — enough to power tens of thousands of homes — will be billed under new terms and conditions separate from the average customer.
Franchise Fees are collected based on electric service inside or outside of city limits. If you live within the city limits of a city with which Georgia Power does NOT have a franchise agreement, you will pay as outside the city limits. If you are not sure, contact GPC at 1.888.660.5890.
